Nuri is built around one idea: self-custody should be simple enough for everyone.

Create a Bitcoin and stablecoin wallet in one click. No password. No seed phrase in the normal setup. Multisig and recovery stay underneath.

The goal is the security of a serious self-custodial wallet with the setup of Face ID.

ID verification only when a service requires it.

Nuri does not require ID to create the self-custodial wallet and does not hold your crypto.

If you choose a regulated Visa, banking or cash-out service, that provider may ask you to verify your identity for that service.

The regulated service is separate from the self-custodial wallet.

Recovery without Nuri.

The wallet is designed so ownership and recovery do not depend on Nuri, a card provider or a bank continuing to operate.

We believe people should be free to hold and send electronic cash directly, person to person, without a middleman or gatekeeper. Bitcoin made peer-to-peer electronic cash possible. Nuri’s job is to make self-custody simple enough for everyday use.

Regulated services around a self-custodial wallet.

Wirex, Monerium and ClickPesa connect Nuri to card, banking, e-money and local payment services. Those services have their own licences, eligibility and terms. They do not become the custody layer for the wallet.

The Nuri story.

Bitwala began in Berlin in 2014, became Nuri in 2021, and the former Nuri company shut down in 2022. Bitwala later returned separately.

In January 2025, Bitwala announced that the Nuri brand and nuri.com were moving to new ownership and would operate independently. Today’s Nuri is a new company and a different product architecture.

The current team comes from Berlin’s long Bitcoin and crypto builder scene. Emin Mahrt is the public founder profile. Cim Topal, Emil Wagner and Lennard Evertz are part of the longer builder story across mining, exchanges, wallets, smart contracts, protocols and payments.

An AI reviewing that history once called the group “the patient pioneers.” The name stuck.

Nuri publishes wallet and recovery code so anyone can inspect how it works.

The recovery design is intended to work without depending on Nuri servers, subject to the required passkey and recovery material.

An agent can read wallet information, prepare a payment, or make approved payments within limits you set.
